A Royal Monument of English Literature: the King James Bible 1611-2011

This 45-page 11”x17” historical documentation of the creation and printing of the 1611 King James Bible includes the first worldwide census of surviving folios complete with their descriptions and current owners or acquisition information thus completing the history of the world’s bestselling book. An original folio leaf from the first printing first edition of the KJV “He” Bible is inserted or may be removed and framed. The census research will change textbooks in that it has long been thought there could be 50 surviving copies whereas 169 have been verified in the census which is only published in this book. Hand bound in rich burgundy, full aniline, hand rubbed cowhide with a buttery soft finish; the cover bears the imprint of a similar design found on the original binding. Acid free 100% cotton rag paper, as similar to the original as this century can produce, was used for all pages, including color photos and chart.

1782 Robert Aitken Bible

Facsimile Reproduction

The Aitken Bible is the first Bible printed in the English language in America.  Called “The Bible of the Revolution”, Robert Aitken’s little Bible was small enough to fit into the coat pocket of the Revolutionary War soldiers. This Bible measures 7-1/2 inches tall by 4-3/4 inches wide by 1-1/2 inches thick. The only Bible printing ever called for by an act of the United States Congress, this King James Version Bible helped meet the need for Scriptures while England refused to allow their Bibles to be imported by the rebellious colonists during the embargo of the Revolutionary War.
